Antique Pink Roses and Cameos Welsh Quilt (astb480)

A truly beautiful and rare antique Edwardian Welsh quilt. The quilt is from the Carmarthen area of Wales and is circa 1910 in date. It is reversible with an entirely different - and absolutely beautiful - design on either side. One side has pink roses atop a paisley design against the prettiest deep shade of duck egg blue. The other side has an exquisite design of columns of pink roses in cameos topped with pink bows and surrounded by dainty floral garlands. This design alternates with sprays of pink dianthus, redcurrant flowers and roses, and the whole beautiful ensemble sits against the most divine shade of a subtle, warm ointment pink. The quilt is entirely handstitched with pink thread in a diamond pattern within multiple border lines. The quilt has a light wadding or batting filling, probably wool. The detail is incredibly pretty and the condition superb - the fabric has its original subtle sheen and the quilt appears to be little used - it has probably has been hidden away for decades.

Two gorgeous quilts in one - each side as beautiful as the other. The quilt is approximately 80" by 85". Condition is excellent for its age. No apparent marks, fading, wear or repairs. A corner of the pink roses and paisley side has an inset piece of another fabric - see photo 4 - (the same design seen on the other Welsh quilt we have for sale) this may have been used because there was not enough of the other fabric to complete the quilt (there is no damage so it is unlikely to be a repair.)
