Beautiful Golden Barbola Linen Basket (hw522)

This is one of the rarest Barbola decorated items we have ever seen! This beautiful linen or laundry basket is made from wicker and bears its original, classical antique gold finish (the subtle finish is portrayed at its best in photos 1 and 4 - the other photos show how the light brings it to life!) The linen basket was made in the 1920s and would have been a very high-quality item for the home, purchased by the most-discerning of homeowners. The shape is exquisite and the Barbola work is truly amazing. The hinged lid bears all the Barbola decoration which is in the form of delicate roses and flowers and four ribbons which stretch across to the corners of the lid. The basket stands on four small feet.

The basket measures approximately 26" high and is 14.5" at its widest. The condition of the wicker is exceptional for its age. There is a circular handle which has become detached (but placed in situ for the photos) this could be refixed if desired although it does not affect the function of the lid and appears to fit at the side.) The Barbola work appears intact with no missing pieces, there is overall fading and wear to the painted finish of the flowers and ribbons, which adds a marvellous patina to this aged piece.

This authentic vintage beauty is perhaps the only one of its kind in existence today, which makes it a very special and desirable piece.
